Creepy and Scary!

Do you know what this is?

Spider in a jar!

Do you know what kind of spider?
Here is a clue.

We found a picture in one our books:
Yes, the distinctive marking of a black widow spider!

Dan's brother came over one Saturday morning to pick some produce from our garden.  He was picking some green beans and found the above black widow spider sitting on an egg sac.  Yikes!  The bite from a black widow spider can actually kill you!  He captured the spider in a jar and destroyed the egg sac.  And, after a sufficient amount of homeschool learning had taken place, the spider was also destroyed.

This Morning...

...I went into the kitchen to discover Anthony standing on the open oven door!  Yikes! Yikes! And yikes again!

Note to self:  No doing anything with the stove top or oven this summer.

Kidding.

Sort of.

Not long ago we found refrigerator magnets inside the oven.  Luckily before we turned the oven on.

What am I going to do with this child?

Edited to add:  A friend at the kids' choir practice yesterday afternoon mentioned that she was able to lock her oven door by pushing a button.  So when I got home, I looked and sure enough, if you hold a certain button down for 3 seconds, the oven door locks.  Hooray!!  Now if only I could figure out how to stay one step ahead of him instead of one step behind.

Update

One hour after I posted the previous post, Anthony figured out that he could open the freezer door (we have a side-by-side model).  Next, I suppose I'll be finding frozen goods in the trash!

A Change Of Plans Required Today

See the new picture up at the top?  That was taken only today.  Everyone was ready to go to church this morning and we actually had an extra 10 minutes.  Dan had pointed out last night that I had a Nativity picture still at the top of the blog, so he got us all outside and we took some pictures out front, just like the ones we took last spring.  Then everyone got in the van, buckled up, and we were ready to go to church, with plenty of time to spare.

Except that the minivan would not start!  Aah!

So we had to make a change of plans, since we can't all fit into the truck.  Dan took the older three to the earlier Mass, and Anthony and I will go to the later one.

After getting Anthony to sleep I had some time to swap out the picture at the top of the blog and post this, so here you are.

Here is one of the pictures that didn't make the cut, but I thought it was funny:

Oh Nooooooooooooo!

A couple of days ago, we were all outside enjoying the warm weather as long as we possibly could.  I finally brought Anthony inside with me so I could get dinner on the table.   I went into the living room to get something and a few seconds later, I heard the door to the deck open.  I said, "Who came in?"  Nobody answered and I walked over to see Anthony standing in the open doorway looking outside.  Yikes!  He's only 11.5 months old!  Luckily, I can deadbolt lock that door, but still!

Unfortunately, he can also open the door to the garage and I have no way (as of now) to lock that one so he can't open it.  Oh my, we will need some vigilant ears around here.

Yikes!

I have never found a recall on our crib, which we got before Catherine was born, but as you can see it needed one.  I was going to put Anthony in there awake so I could do something, and when I pulled up the side, the hardware broke and the the whole drop-side just fell off.  It was hanging on by the ties from the bumper pad.  Maybe his guardian angel has been keeping him fussy at night so he wouldn't sleep in there and hurt himself.  We are grateful!  Thank you, God.
