Random April Events and Pics

We met up with cousins to use our Pizza Hut Book-it Rewards.
The boys say hi to baby Balthaser.

After running off the pizza at the playground, we went to Braums to use our Book Buddies Rewards.
A big booth for a bunch of kids!

The girls with their time-travelling dolls, and silly Anthony:

The girls were invited to their cousin's birthday party in early April:
Anne and Catherine with their cousin, Bridget.

While the girls were at the birthday party, Joseph and Dominic helped Daddy plant the onions:

When I went to pick up the girls, the boys came along and they all got to jump in the bouncy castle:

What fun!

If You Ever Forget...

...to put salt into your cantaloupe bread (or zucchini bread, banana bread, etc.)...

...Do Not Despair!

All you have to do is slather on some butter and eat away.

Problem solved!

What Kind Of Day Will You Have...

(At least it slowed down, he's only on outfit #4 now.)

Coincidence

As we were listening to the audiotape of "Mr. Popper's Penguins" this morning before lunch, I was astonished to hear the reader read right out of the book that it was Wednesday, September 29th!

I Guess We Were Supposed To Stay Home Today

Just as we were heading down the road to choir practice this afternoon, I realized that I heard a funny sound. I listened for a few seconds and then stopped the minivan to investigate. And found a flat tire! So we drove the short distance back home. The kids said, "That's okay, Mommy, we can play choir practice at home."

On the plus side, Anthony fell asleep in that short period of time, and I was able to get him into the house still asleep. Yahoo!

Exercise For Busy Moms

Exercise is when you strap an almost 15 pound baby to your chest and vacuum nearly the entire house. Whew!

I Want To Know

Why do they make ceiling fans with these three speeds?

1. Barely on

2. A little more than barely on

3. Tornado level

How To Make A Little Girl's Day

If you have a daughter who has to wear hand-me-downs from her older sister, and gets upset about it sometimes, one way to get her grinning from ear to ear is to buy her a "new" dress at a garage sale (for $1, woo-hoo).

A hand-me-down from someone else is way more exciting than one from your sister.

It is a really cute dress, by the way.

Joseph's Favorite Number

One hundred fifty thousand ninety-nine.

150,099.

Don't ask me where that came from. Who can explain the workings of a just-turned 3 year old's mind?

Have You Ever?

Have you ever put things like "Unload the dishwasher" or "Make lunch" on your to-do-list just so you could cross something off?

At least I'm not to the point where my list includes "Get out of bed."

Not yet.

Of This And That

Our fun two weeks of playing, watching movies, eating goodies, opening gifts, and visiting family has come to an end. So now we are in detox mode, getting back into a routine, catching up on laundry and the hundred other things that have been stacking up while we were busy celebrating the birth of Jesus. Dan was either on furlough, vacation, or on call from home the whole time, so that only added to the fun and playtime (and the need for detox!). We have finished our second day back to school and that has actually seemed to help get the kids back into the usual routine. The baby and I are doing well, no more crazy pregnancy episodes. I have a bunch of blog posts I want to do - we'll see when that happens. Likely you'll be reading about Christmas for some time to come!

In the meantime, here are a few little snippets:

Child to Mommy: Your tummy is getting really big!

Mommy: It sure is.

Child: It is even bigger than your bottom!

Mommy: (uhhh, thanks)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two good ways to start the day:

1) Have the heater kick on while you are in the shower, and thus when you get out, your towel, which hangs over the heat vent, is nice and toasty.

2) Have your children, unasked, make your bed for you. They did a good job, too!

Spotted after school time this morning:

We have a ton of new toys in the house and I saw the twins playing with a long cardboard tube from a used-up roll of wrapping paper. Hmm. Maybe we need to make a few old toys disappear.

Does It Count?

So, does it count as homeschooling when your kids watch cartoons in Spanish on Saturday morning?

Okay, so what if I tell you that we don't have cable and some of the basic channels we can't get, so the only channel showing cartoons is the Spanish channel? They don't seem to mind, though, because they love to watch Dora and Diego, no matter what the language.

Not To Make You Jealous...

...but I have been inhaling the scent of slowly simmering apple butter all day long (making it in the crockpot), and I am about to go eat a piece of toast with fresh apple butter on it. Mmmm!

Thoughts On Coffee

How is that a woman can make it all the way through medical school and 3 years of residency, with many missed hours of sleep, and never acquire the habit or liking for coffee, but give her 4 small children and she soon cannot function without that morning cup?

Is It Strange?

Is it just me or would you think it was strange if your kids(the boys, mainly) wanted to lick the spoon you used to scoop out some shortening?

This has occurred on multiple occasions, so it's not like they don't know what it tastes like.

I Swear I Feed Them!

The same kids who not long ago refused to eat the peels on apples, stood by devouring long strands of apple peels as I was peeling the apples for applesauce this morning. Maybe it's just more cool to eat them that way.

Lesson For The Day

If you go to the zoo and stop to observe the elephant...

...and he proceeds to, uhhhh, make room for dinner,...

...make sure you are not standing downwind!
