Exploration Place Field Trip

At the end of our first week of school, we went on a field trip! The kids all got in free using passes they earned during the summer reading program at the library.  We hadn't been in a couple of years, so the kids were really excited to go.

Working on mind games in the main hall.

The special exhibit was all about the science of fear.

They liked it, but I didn't think it was as good as the special exhibits usually are.

We paused lunch to watch a worker shoot off a pipe cannon.

The girls' table.

The boys' table.

Next we went over the castle.

They just love this area of the museum.

I wish I had one of these at home. :)

The fishing pond was new to them.

Disorderly Conduct was his crime.

Anne played dress-up.

Anne and friends.

Joseph and his buddy as knights-in-training.

Horses!

Then we checked out the Aviation room.

I think Anthony just crashed.

Playing with air.

Dominic tried to fly the Wright brothers' plane.

Next came the Keva planks building room, another place requiring a long stop.

Catherine with one creation.

Catherine and her friend built a very tall tower.

Very intent on their work.

Pause for a smile.

Anthony hard at work.

Dominic and his friend built quite a complex.

Kids in the tornado simulator.

Looking out the window.

Playing with water.

Back to the castle again we go.  This time I climbed to the top.  It's really high!

This garden was easy to plant and harvest.

Still More Exploration Place

At Exploration Place, there is a large room with a lot of hands-on aviation exhibits.  What a fun area!

Dominic got to practice flying a plane.

Anthony and Evelyn at the controls.  Double trouble!

Anthony tried to climb on this one.

Had to use the whole body to fly this old-time plane!

There was a lot of crashing going on.

Catherine practiced flying a small one.

Girls took over the plane.

Then off to the Kansas room we went.
Look at my hand!

Art time.

Water play.

Catherine figuring it out.

The Arkansas River was very full.

In the tornado simulator.

Not quite sure how many kids are in there.

The girls surrounding an artificially created tornado.

Next we went into a room with a miniature Kansas town with all sorts of landmarks from our state.  There were many areas which had moving parts activated by the push of a button.  There was also a train that ran around the entire thing.
Could have looked at it more, but it was the end of our visit, and the littles were not enthused.

A final goodbye from T-Rex.

More Exploration Place

We next went to the three story medieval castle, with all kinds of rooms and learning/playing activities.  The kids all had a great time here.
One end of the castle.

The other end.

We might need one of these at home!  :)

View from the top.

Fire the catapult!

Joseph and Evelyn in the medieval oven.

The knights are ready to ride.

Queen Anne.

After that it was time for lunch.  Note the swollen river in the background.
Girls' table:  Isabella, Catherine, Olivia, and Anne.

Boys' table: Anthony, Dominic, Aloysius, and Joseph.

Evelyn and Seth.

To Be Continued...
